What is what size is a youth medium?

A youth medium (YM) clothing size doesn't have a universally standardized measurement. The size varies significantly depending on the brand, the type of garment (shirt, pants, jacket etc.), and even the country of origin.

However, generally speaking, a youth medium is designed to fit children who are approximately between the ages of 10-12 years old. The corresponding measurements would roughly fall within these ranges (but again, always check the brand's size chart):

  • Height: Approximately 54-58 inches (137-147 cm)
  • Weight: Approximately 80-110 pounds (36-50 kg)
  • Chest/Bust: Approximately 28-30 inches (71-76 cm) (for shirts)
  • Waist: Approximately 26-28 inches (66-71 cm) (for pants)

To find the accurate size:

  • Always check the specific brand's size chart. This is the only reliable way to determine if a youth medium will fit. Size charts usually provide detailed measurements for each size in inches or centimeters.
  • Measure the child. Use a tape measure to get accurate measurements of the child's height, chest/bust, waist, and hips. Compare those measurements to the brand's size chart.

Don't rely solely on the "youth medium" label. Always refer to the brand's sizing information for the most accurate fit.
